The “Solo Art Series” is a series of monthly solo art exhibitions for established artists who have a body of work to present to the public. Artist participants were asked to submit the following 3 components for the “Solo Art Series” competition: 1. Their art. 2. Their artist biography. 3. Their artist statement. These elements were evaluated and judged, which resulted in the selection of the artists who will be featured in individual month-long solo art exhibitions. This was the 18th “Solo Art Series” Art Competition that the gallery has conducted.
Below are Cher’s Artist Biography, her Artist Statement, along with 25 of her paintings. We hope that you will take the time to read Cher’s information and to take a look at her hyperrealistic artwork.
Cher Pruys was born in Regina. Over the years she lived in many places including Saskatoon, Calgary, Edmonton, Ottawa, Fort Frances, settling into her present home in Devlin, on the banks of the Rainy River with her husband Mark, 4 dogs and 2 cats.
By age three, Cher was seldom found without a drawing tool in hand. She worked in pencil, charcoal and ink over the years, until she picked up a paintbrush at the age of 35. Beginning with oil paints, she found her chosen mediums in acrylic, watercolor and gouache.
Although self-taught, her dedication and talent has seen her work juried into 143 International exhibits, as well as exhibits in numerous non-juried shows. She has won 129 awards for her work at the International Juried Exhibits. Her work has graced the covers of 3 books, 21 magazines, and has-been featured in over 93 international publications. Cher's works have found a permanent home in private and public collections worldwide.
Cher's artistic style can be described as Realism with a hint of Abstract in her latest works.
"To take my inner visions with my hands and create a work of art for you the viewer .... That is the ultimate in self-expression."
Painting allows me to find the soul of my subject, and to manipulate reality by creating an illusionistic depth, filled with visual, spiritual and cultural flavours as I see fit, all on a flattened surface with a 3 dimensional look. My paintings of children, speak to me of the pure, clean, unbiased outlook of childhood, before the journey through life puts its hooks into us and takes the magic away…painting makes it possible for me to recapture that magic, and to express my innermost feelings in a nonverbal way. It is my lifeline, my motivation and my reason for being.
