Jody Harmon – Artist Showcase Feature

Light Space & Time Online Art Gallery is thrilled to announce that Jody Harmon has been named as the Gallery’s new featured artist and she will now be promoted by the gallery for the next 14 days in the gallery’s Artist Showcase.

Jody was selected as 1 of the top twelve finalists of the gallery’s recent Solo Art Exhibition Series #5. The placement in this competition qualified her art to be showcased in this feature.  Below are Jody’s Artist Biography, Artist Statement and 5 images that were submitted to this competition.

Artist Biography:

This body of work was created during a time in my life of an intense, complex, and emotionally abusive relationship. The image of the female child, with juxtaposition of powerful prose, convey the complexities and loss of innocence in becoming the objectified feminine that is pervasive in western culture. The transition from child to woman changes us profoundly; we learn to hide much of our SELF when we become the object of the male gaze.

This very personal work represents a collective experience of the feminine in our culture. My original intention with this work was an expression of my personal experience during this difficult time, I did not realize how many women had similar experiences and would relate so profoundly to these images.

I remain a seeker in understanding the complexities of our world and our context of experience within this world.

Artist Statement:

My background is in the philosophical realm and I have chosen to express and study these concepts through visual media. The majority of my work has focused on women’s issues and the representation of women in our culture. Technically, my work is created through photographic and digital media; I also incorporate poetry, which exists throughout my body of work.
