Hazel is an award-winning artist who has been painting the landscapes of Cheshire and surrounding areas for the past several years. As Artist in Residence for the Wirral Country Park, Hazel was able to live and paint on Hilbre Island over the spring of 2016. Also with the help of the Cheshire Wildlife Trust, Hazel gained access to and inspiration from some of the awe-inspiring nature reserves around Delamere Forest.
Over the last five years, Hazel has gained a true understanding of nature and this reflects in her paintings. She captures light and shadow with stunning accuracy. She has received two American Art Awards, in both the "World’s Best Artists of Landscape Impressionism” and "World’s Best Artists of Realism Landscape” categories. Both awards received separate features in the Huffington Post.
Hazel’s work has been featured in Artists & Illustrators Online Magazine’s Autumn Gallery, for which she won Editor’s Choice. Three times in the past two years, Hazel has also been awarded People’s Choice awards from separate open exhibitions.
I had been interested in art when I was at school but had not taken it up after I left. I really only started when I went to an oil painting class. It felt right, as though I had been doing it all my life. However, the more painting I did the more I needed to learn. So, I gave up my business that I had been running for sixteen years, while bringing up my family, which allowed me the opportunity to spend more time learning doing what I loved. After going into hibernation for eight years here I am.
