POINCIANA, FL – June 2, 2014 – / – Bobbi Mastrangelo is very pleased to announce that her unique manhole art will compete for the “Best of the Best” award on June 5, 2014 with nine other winning artists from the Orlando Museum of Art’s 1st Thursdays Season.
The June 5th Reception, from 6-9 PM, celebrates the 90th Anniversary of 1st Thursdays Exhibitions for The Orlando Museum of Art in Florida. For further information on The Orlando Museum of Art in Florida, their website is http://www.omart.org/
Mastrangelo’s 26″ high sculpture relief “INSIDE 52GA-R,” with mud, roots and stones captured the Blue Ribbon for The 1st Thursdays Exhibition in May entitled “Inside/Out.” The artist created an underground view of a manhole cover and a freshly dug mud-hole with exposed roots and stones.
Mastrangelo’s unique theme features sculpture relief works based on manhole covers, water covers, grates and drains. Her art appears so realistic that she has been accused of stealing manhole covers and hanging them on the wall. Most of her works are created from layers of light-weight builders’ foam. The inherent message in her art is protection of our precious resources and appreciation of public works.
Bobbi’s Manhole Fascination includes many aspects. The six sculpture relief works she will be exhibiting on June 5th range from Construction; ”Inside 52GA-R” to Environmental Pride, “When” (The People Care) to Street History, “Three Sewers” (Stick Ball) and Manhole Grid Patterns, “City of Orlando,” “Gaz” and “Vestige” (Shown in WUCF-TV’s recent “Artisode #108”)
The Ten “Best of Show” Artists will also have the opportunity to exhibit their work at The Mayor’s Gallery on the third floor of Orlando City Hall from Thursday, June 14th-Friday, September 12, 2014.
