Artist Biography:

André Farnier is a watercolor painter and self-taught pastel artist, born in Bort-les-Orgues, France.  He spent his childhood in Auvergne, then it is in the Dordogne where he spent his studies.

While in school, he always had a sheet of draft paper next to his notebook to scribble the drawings that he imagined. After studying fitter and advanced industrial design, he performed various jobs in Paris over a period of 15 years.

André spent most of his free time at the Place du Tertre. He would draw here and it was here where he studied other artist’s artworks and learned their techniques.

He transferred to Sarlat-la-Canéda and it was here that he enrolled in a watercolor class and studied this medium for a year. He then enrolled in two courses at the cultural center of Ribérac. While studying at the L E P Chardeuil, he realized that it was time to stand on his own.

André has participated in several regional, national and international exhibitions that have earned him awards and recognition.  For the time being, painting remains for him a hobby.

Artist Statement:

Child on school benches already
I scribbled on a rough leaves
Some drawings, posing there
Right out of my inspiration…

But the child grows up, his little feet too
I am powered in life
my art is really defined
Transporting it to infinity…

Always in search of discoveries
For watercolor, with a quick gesture
Paint a scene of nature
Or the old wall of a hovel…

I capture the shadows and the light
I put them in colors
From my soft hand the light soul
In the expression of my mind…
